Description

Oil on canvas mounted on panel, 24x18cm, 2024

I painted this Artwork in a small chapel right on the top of a mountain. The way I found this spot with the most amazing view was totally random. It was a super hot day and I was looking desperately for some shade. I wanted to go out of the city and paint something different that day, not knowing what there won’t be any shade outside of Naxos town. Not even the trees where giving me enough cover from the sun. So as I wondered around already ready to quit and go back in to civilization I saw this small white chapel right on the top of the mountain. Stupidly as I was I thought it would just take 20 minutes to get up there so I started the hike ready to take cover inside of the cool and shady building. After 1,5 h I reached the chapel, tired and full of sweat. But what appeared in front of my vision took my breath away. I immediately pulled out my painting things and started to paint. There wasn’t  only shade in that place but also I could get some cool and fresh air, which was streaming through the open doorway.
